Bloomberg Changes Tune

Recently, we posted an article and rebuttal from the AANP, from Bloomberg News. The article called into question the qualifications and abilities of the nations’ nurse practitioners. The article, titled “The Miseducation of America’s Nurse Practitioners,” presented an imbalanced view of the NP profession.

After the negative feedback and response from not only the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, but many others, they have now recognized the vital contributions nurse practitioners make to the healthcare system. The article, titled “Simple economics can help cut health care costs“, actually advocates for increasing scope of practice laws in every state to allow nurse practitioners to practice to the fullest extent of their education and training. It notes, correctly, needlessly strict laws limit access to care and have been shown to increase costs. One study found that relaxing such laws for
nurse practitioners could save Medicare more than $40 billion annually.”. In the current economic climate, the federal government, Medicare, and most of all patients deserve this break! It’s one that wouldn’t reduce quality outcomes, and will expand access to care!

Call, write, or talk in person to your state and federal legislators and demand they make the needed changes to allow ALL nurse practitioners to practice to the fullest extent of their training and education, and not be encumbered by needless and costly laws and restrictions, and not be required to have a collaborative agreement (that only serves to increase physician pay) to practice! YOU deserve it!
